Bad Blogger

Ok, ok, I admit it. I am a bad blogger. Just punish me already and get it over with. My apologies to all of my one, possibly two readers for not updating you for quite a while. I seem to need to make a habit of being bloggity and then it won't slip my mind for weeks. Well, alot has happened so I guess I had better fill you in....

Nick
He's doing really well. He still walks with a bit of a limp but if I keep him quiet I can see it improving. Keeping him quiet is getting diffcult. You can tell he is feeling better and just wants to run and play! However, if he does manage to get bit of a run in I can definitely notice he has more of a limp, so we're doing our best to convince him he needs to stay still. I am still impressed though, that after almost a month of basically NO excercise, he is finially now just starting to get what I would described as hyper. Such a good boy! I've been doing training with him to work his brain while he is restricted, which is coming along nicely. I have been doing alot of crate games with him, since he now hates being in his crate from having to be in it so much, and gets super anxious in there. Seriously, he drools a swimming pool and shreds anything in reach. The wonderful $20 Costco dogbed has so far survived his shredding urges, however. He got his stitches out last week (I took them out myself, all 8 of them) and his incision is healing very nicely. He is, however, still blad over a 1/4 of his body and this will probably take several months to grow back. It's been a month since his accident now, and three weeks since his surgery and I am hoping he will heal fully without a limp. Next week, we will x-ray him and my fingers are crossed that the prognosis will be good. The vet seems very pleased with his progress so far, so that keeps me hopeful for a full recovery.

Maui
Maui is doing well although I will admit I have not been taking her out for walks as often since Nick hurt himself. She does enjoy getting out with me for some mom & Maui time though. We've been going to the dog park with friends and down to the river from our house in the evenings. It's a beautiful walk down there and usually there are pelicans to watch. Last time we went down I counted 63, which is a rediculous amount and the most I have ever seen there. I am considering entering her into an Agility and Rally Obedience competition in about 3 weeks. I am also considering entering her into either Pre-Novice or Novice for Obedience, to see if she could get her title. I'm just nervous because I think we are a bit rusty so I'm looking for someone to help me out with practicing. I need to decide quickly though, as the deadline for Rally-O and Obedience is a few days away. I think I will probably do the Rally, but I'm not to sure about Obedience.

Me
Well, some interesting changes going on in my life too. The house is still for sale, it has definitely slowed down now though, but we still have several viewings a week. We did have an offer on the house which fell through, and unfortunately took our house off the market for 10 days at the peak spring season. We are not expecting anything much to happen offer wise until mid-late July. We have lots of people like the house, but there is so much choice on the market they are finding something a better fit for them. We find alot of people are skeptical about the neighbourhood. Even though it is great now, it never used to be, and still has a negative stigma. We find it quiet, safe, and friendly, but oh well. Someone will love our little house as much as we do, sooner or later.

An interesting development for me is the company I work for has declared bankruptcy. So now, I have no idea how much longer I will have a job here. I am basically employed on a day to day basis. So, I am looking for other jobs where we plan to move in BC and if it comes down to it, the dogs and I will move over for a bit while Cam stays here. Not optimal, but we will survive. I also am pretty sure I can get EI, which will help out for a while for sure. We intend on starting our own businesses after we move, which is one of the reasons you can apply for EI. That in combination with the fact that I'm on temporary employment due to Petcetera's bankruptcy, should mean I can get some EI benefits to help me out while we move and get the businesses running. I could still work part time, so it might work out very well. Cam should be able to get EI on the same basis, if not due to the fact that I will be moving for work and he will have to leave his job to come with me.

Hahaha my cat just tried to make a running leap out of the laundry room onto the window sill via the couch, however he failed epicly and ran into the wall! Genious...never a dull moment with these guys around :)

Nick's Surgery - Success!

I'm still in Calgary, but thought I would post that Nick's surgery went really well and the vet thinks he will heal quickly. I'm picking him up tomorrow and heading home. Hoping he recovers fast so he can run and play again!

Nick gets surgery today

Nick is getting his surgery today, and I'll pick him up and head home tomorrow . He has a broken shoulder and I had to bring him to Calgary for his surgery. Thankfully I got in to Fish Creek vet where I only had to pay about $1500 compared to the $3500 it would have cost at the specialist. I was really worried but I felt very comfortable leaving him there. Now, 4 weeks of only 5-10 minute walks per day, no running, playing, going up or down stairs....that will be fun. Then we x-ray him again to see how it's healed. Since he's young, 5 months, he should heal fast, but there's still no telling if it will affect his growth at all really. I think he'll probably have somewhat of a limp, but mostly be ok. Probably not going to be a showdog like we were hoping, but oh well, as long as he's happy. He's such a good boy and we love him.
