Well, very shortly here I am heading up to Calgary with little Nick to get him in for surgery. First stop is a cheaper vet, to do a consult with the x-rays to see if can do the surgery. My vet has spoken with him and he thinks he can do it, but needs to see the x-rays for sure. He's about half the price, and just as good, so here's hoping. If that vet can't do it, I'll have to head up to a specialist, which will be a lot more money.
I can't lie, I am feeling quite nervous. I know it should be fine but a few years ago I lost a cat during a routine neuter surgery (his liver reacted to the anasthetic), so I always feel a little nervous about these kinds of things. Plus, I've never had a pet go through something so major. My poor little baby, his recovery could be 6-8 weeks or possibly longer. He may need physio even, it's difficult to say. He's damn lucky he's so sweet! Guess my summer will be taking care of him, but that's ok. We're supposed to go camping end of July, not sure how that will work yet!

Introduction
Hello everyone out there on the interwebs. My name is Sarah, I am 25 and currently live in Lethbridge, Alberta. I have many hobbies including film making, writing, music, and art, but my dogs are a big part of my life. I currently share my home with my boyfriend, our cat, Bobo, and two siberian huskies. Maui is the oldest, at 7 years old, and Nick (her grandson) just turned 5 months old.
I am almost finished a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a major in New Media, I just have an internship left to complete. I also just started a Diploma in Advanced Canine Behavioural Science through the Companion Animal Science Institute. I currently work as a dog trainer, and wanted to improve my knowledge and skills. I've heard great things about CASI and have been thinking about this for a while, so finially took the plunge.
Those are our dogs, aren't they beautiful? They are a pain in the ass sometimes, but are great characters and always fun to have around.
Maui is older and can be a bit of a bitch, but she is a very sweet girl who loves me probably a bit too much. As independent as she can be/pretends to be, I swear she dies a little inside everytime I leave her. I rescued her from a neglectful and possibly abusive home at just under 3 years old, so that kind of explains her split personalities, but she can come a long way. Maui and I train in agility, rally obedience, and traditional obedience. Hopefully some day soon when I have the money and schedule I will start competing and get some titles on her.
Nick is as sweet as can be, and generally easy going. He is one of the most unique looking siberian huskies I've ever seen with the combination of his colouring and markings. Due to a freak accident, he broke his shoulder last Friday and I found out he will need a surgery. I was pretty certain he just had a sprain, so when I saw the xrays it was definitely a shock. To my surprise, he had a pretty nasty break at the top of his shoulder. He will need to have it pinned, and then slinged and his recovery time is probably going to be 6-8 weeks. I'm not sure yet how long he is going to have to be on bedrest, but it's not going to be fun. My poor baby, he is such a trooper though. He certainly doesn't act like his leg is broken! He is very happy-go-lucky, I will be so glad to see him all better and running around again. I had hoped to show him, but that might not happen now. I am hoping he will be ok to do agility, but as long as he can run and play I will be happy. His recovery should be good, although the recovery of my bank account might take a bit longer.
Well, that is about it for now. Hopefully I will keep you entertained with my stories about my life with my crazy huskies and working as a trainer!
